Amberd Castle Flora
The trail between Yerevan and up Mt. Aragats to Nor Amberd and Amberd Fortress takes in a part of Armenia with extraordinary contrasts; covering a series of vegetation zones from semi-desert to steppe and Alpine zones with carpets of flowers.






Amberd Castle Flora
The area around Amberd Castle is in bloom May-July and features some extraordinary flower species. On this panel are a few of the many that can be found:

- Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum gabrielianae)—named for the author of this text—with large white flowers gathered into head-inflorescence and always with curved bulb.

How to reach Amberd is about 1 hour north of Yerevan, on Mt. Aragats. Take the M-1 highway north past Ashtarak, then take the Biurakan exit and follow our signs marking the way to the site. From the highway it is about 24.9 km to the complex.
