Length: 58-65 cm, Wing Span: 105-112 cm
General description: Black-crowned Night-heron is a light grey heron with glossy black crown and back. During the breeding season the adult has two or three long white feathers on the nape, red eyes and yellowish-orange legs. It has slightly short, black bill.
Abundance and habitat: Year-round Resident, uncommon.
Occurs in lakes, fish ponds and river banks. Builds platform nest in reedbeds, seldom in trees.
Food: Feeds on small fish, amphibians, aquatic insects and small rodents sometimes during the night.
Status: Protected by the RA law on fauna.
