Length: 48-53 cm, Wing Span: 90-96 cm

General description: It is a stocky heron. The breeding plumage is all white with orange on crown, breast and back. The orange patches absent during post-breeding period. The bill is thick and short with yellowish-orange color.

Abundance and habitat: Breeding species, uncommon.

Occurs in wetlands, open grassy areas such as meadows and marshes. Builds a platform nest from sticks in trees and reedbeds.

Food: Insects and amphibians.

Status: Protected by the RA law on fauna.
