Noravank IBA

This Important Bird Area (IBA), set among breathtaking scenery, is an important biodiversity hotspot with open woodlands, steep vertical hillsides, caverns and abundant rocky outcrops.

Neophron percnopterus

Length: 60-70 cm, Wing Span: 155-180 cm.

General description: Mostly white; thin bill, broad wings, and bluntly-pointed tail. Bare yellow face and yellowish bill with dark tip. White underwing coverts contrast with black flight feathers.

Abundance and habitat: Uncommon species of breeding, migratory birds. The nest is a pile of branches, herbs and rags built in cliff ledges or shallow caves.

Food: Carrion, garbage and small animals.

Status: Listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as endangered species. Also listed in the RA Red Data Book, categorized as endangered. Protected by the RA law on fauna.
