Gladzor University Museum

The exhibition at this museum is devoted to the history of Gladzor University and its role and significance in the religious, scientific and social life of Medieval Armenia.

Established in 1282 and active for over 70 years, this famous Armenian school of learning was a major center for religious, social-political and philosophical thought. It was referred to as “Second Athens”, “Wisdom Hub” and “Renowned University”.

The outstanding Armenian intellectuals N. Mshetsi, Ye. Nchetsi, H. Vorotnetsi, Kh. Kecharetsi, T. Tarontsi, Avag, Momik and others studied and worked at the university.

By the 1984 decree of the government of Armenian SSR, solemn celebrations were held to mark the 700th anniversary of Gladzor University.  A museum was later established in St. Hakob (St. Jacob) church in Vernashen village, with over 300 exhibits showcased.
