Length: 55-65 cm, Wing Span: 80-95 cm
General description: Dark-colored species with long down-curved bill. During breeding season the ibis is rich chestnut in color with dark green, purple, glossy wings, back, and tail. In the post-breeding period is marked head and neck are dull-colored.
Abundance and habitat: Breeding species, common.
Occurs at shallow lakes, marshes, wet meadows, inland wetlands and fish ponds. Distinguished for colonial nesting in reedbeds and bushes. Builds a platform-shaped nest.
Food: Worms, insects, crustaceans and small vertebrates.
Status: Listed in Armenia’s Red Data Book, categorized as vulnerable species. Protected by the RA law on fauna.
