This Important Bird Area (IBA), set among breathtaking scenery, is an important biodiversity hotspot with open woodlands, steep vertical hillsides, caverns and abundant rocky outcrops.

Falco peregrinus

Length: 36-48 cm, Wing Span: 95-110 cm

General description: Male has dark upper cheek and broad mustache contrasting with whitish throat and sides of neck. Underparts are pale orange with dense streaks. Female is larger and darker.

Abundance and habitat: Rare species of resident birds. Occurs in mountain steppes with rock formations, forests and farmlands. Nests in rock cavities or in old nests of other raptors.

Food: Birds.

Status: Listed in the Red Data Book of the Republic of Armenia as “vulnerable species”. Protected by the RA law on fauna.
